| Cherry Hill Moms Launch School Program To Explain Autism |
|
by KYW's Lynne Adkins Two moms from Cherry Hill, New Jersey have come up with a program for a school to educate students and teachers about autism. The women both have children with autism and wanted their classmates to have a better understanding of theirs sons. Debbie Schmidt says the program includes a videotape, a sound CD, and an explanation of autism in language that children can understand, and she says her son now finds school a more friendly environment: "The kids that were outside of his class had a better understanding of his differences and his challenges, and I think that's what it's really all about. It became 'hey, how's your day going.' People would want to get to know him a bit better because they understood him a bit better." |
